Cry of Justice

The WORD in other words (2018) by Brother Jong Jacela SVD – Cainta, Rizal

December 28 – Feast of the Holy Innocents / Octave of Christmas

“Sobbing and loud lamentation” have been heard around the country due to the number of persons killed due to the government’s crackdown on illegal drugs. Can this be the final solution to the drug problem?

Herod ordered the killing of all children 2 years old and below just to ascertain that Jesus would be among these. But his solution failed because heaven intervened and so the prophecy had been fulfilled.

Though the two situations may differ, they, nevertheless, show that “man’s ways are different from God’s ways”.

Before Jesus’ time, the principle of “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” was the accepted norm. Even now, in some countries, this still exists.

But when Jesus came, he taught us how to turn the other cheek and forgive. He taught us about a different way of dealing with the situation.

That is why for those who don’t know Jesus and those who don’t follow His teachings, it would be very difficult to forgive and to turn the other cheek.

Throughout history, many have died because of man’s foolishness, and the victims and the survivors have cried for justice. Will their deaths be justified because of man’s intervention or action?

Only God can bring about true justice.
